Is it possible for Iran to threaten Bulgaria's security?
In recent days, discussions have emerged in the Bulgarian public space regarding potential risks to national security linked to the tensions in the Middle East. The topic became relevant following statements by political figures regarding Iran's military capabilities.
Former Minister of Defense Krasimir Karakachanov stated in an interview with the Bulgarian National Radio that Iran possesses the technical capacity to carry out long-range strikes. According to his words, the range of certain Iranian missiles could theoretically reach the territories of Bulgaria and Romania.
Despite these claims, security experts remind us that Bulgaria is a full member of NATO. This means that our country is protected by the Alliance's collective defense system, which includes modern surveillance and air defense systems deployed in the region.
At the moment, there is no official information from the Bulgarian security services or the Ministry of Defense regarding a specific and immediate threat to the country. State institutions continue to monitor the situation in the Middle East closely and maintain constant contact with their partners in NATO.
The situation remains dynamic, but experts advise citizens to rely only on official sources of information. Bulgaria continues to support diplomatic efforts to de-escalate tensions in the region with the aim of preserving peace and stability.
