Bulgaria and Serbia to build a new border crossing at Kalotina
Bulgaria and Serbia have officially signed an agreement for the construction of a new border crossing that will connect the two nations. The project provides for the opening of the "Kalotina 2 – Gradina 2" crossing, which is an important step toward improving infrastructure links in the region.
The main goal of the new facility is to significantly relieve the heavy traffic on the main road between Sofia and Belgrade. Currently, the "Kalotina" border crossing often faces long queues, especially during summer vacations and holidays, which inconveniences traveling citizens.
In addition to facilitating the flow of tourists, the new crossing will also support businesses. Faster border crossings will accelerate logistics and the transport of goods, which is of key importance for economic cooperation between the two neighboring countries.
The project is part of broader efforts by the governments in Sofia and Belgrade to modernize the transport network. The new infrastructure is expected to contribute to better connectivity and easier access to European transport corridors.
The timelines for the construction activities are yet to be determined. The realization of this project is expected to bring long-term benefits to the citizens of both countries by making travel faster, safer, and more convenient.
