Important for tourists: What you need to know about medical services at the seaside
The summer season on the Bulgarian Black Sea coast is in full swing, but a vacation can sometimes be marred by unexpected health problems. It is important for tourists to be prepared and informed on how to seek help if they feel unwell during their holiday.
In the largest Bulgarian seaside resort, Sunny Beach, ten medical centers are in operation. They were established to serve the thousands of guests from the country and abroad who visit the resort during the active summer period.
It is important, however, for vacationers to know that none of these ten medical centers in Sunny Beach work with the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF). This means that patients must pay the full price for the examinations and services they receive on-site.
Experts advise tourists to inform themselves in advance about the prices of medical services in the area where they are staying. It is also a good idea to check whether your insurance covers the costs of private medical examinations to avoid unpleasant surprises when it comes time to pay.
Before you set off on your trip, it is always a good idea to carry a small first-aid kit with basic medications. If you do need to visit a doctor, do not forget to request all necessary documents and receipts, which may be useful for any potential reimbursement of expenses from an insurance company.
