Prices of medicines paid by the NHIF have decreased by up to 14%
The National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) has announced a significant reduction in the prices of a number of medications in Bulgaria. Data shows that since the beginning of 2023, expenditures for medicines covered by public funds have fallen by up to 14%.
This decrease is the result of new agreements between the state and pharmaceutical companies. The goal of these changes is to optimize public spending and ensure better patient access to necessary treatment without placing additional strain on the health insurance fund's budget.
Experts note that the reduction covers a wide range of medicinal products, including those for chronic diseases. This is an important step for Bulgarian citizens, as the lower prices allow the institution to redirect the saved funds toward covering a larger number of therapies or including new, modern medicines in the reimbursement list.
Although prices for the NHIF are decreasing, the Ministry of Health emphasizes that the quality of the medications remains unchanged. Patients can be assured that the change will not affect their safety or the effectiveness of the prescribed treatment.
It is expected that the trend of more effective price negotiation will continue in the coming months. Health authorities plan to monitor the market closely to ensure that Bulgarian patients receive the best conditions for access to quality healthcare.
