Poland considers providing MiG-29 fighter jets to Bulgaria

Poland is considering the possibility of transferring its MiG-29 fighter jets to Bulgaria if an agreement for their shipment to Ukraine is not reached. This news has emerged as a potential solution for maintaining the Bulgarian Air Force, which is experiencing difficulties with the maintenance of its current equipment.

Bulgarian aviation currently relies primarily on Soviet MiG-29 fighter jets, whose operational lifespan is gradually expiring. Due to the complex geopolitical situation and sanctions against Russia, finding spare parts for these aircraft is becoming increasingly difficult, which puts the security of Bulgarian airspace at risk.

The Polish Air Force possesses a number of such machines that have undergone modernization and are in good technical condition. Transferring them to Bulgaria could serve as a bridge until the arrival of the new American F-16 fighter jets, which our country expects to receive in the coming years.

At the moment, official negotiations on the topic have not yet been finalized. It is expected that the Ministry of Defense of Bulgaria will conduct an additional analysis of the condition of the Polish aircraft and assess whether they meet the needs of the Bulgarian army.

The situation remains dynamic and depends on international agreements within the framework of NATO. Bulgarian citizens and experts are closely monitoring the development of the case, as the security of the skies over the country is a priority for national defense.
