Bulgaria plans to build a national drone protection system
Bulgaria is facing the need to create a specialized national system for countering unmanned aerial vehicles. Security experts emphasize that modern threats related to drones are becoming increasingly frequent and require an adequate technological response from the state.
Various strategies for detecting and neutralizing unauthorized flights are currently being discussed. The main goal of the project is to protect critical sites of national importance, such as power plants, airports, and military bases. Specialists point out that current methods for controlling airspace are not sufficiently effective against small and fast-moving devices.
The proposal includes the integration of radar systems, sensors, and radio frequency jamming software. This technology would allow authorities to identify the drone operator and sever the connection before it enters a restricted area. Similar systems are already being used successfully in a number of European countries that are also seeking to improve their security.
It is expected that a debate regarding the funding and legal framework of the initiative will begin in the coming months. The responsible institutions must determine which bodies will have the authority to manage the system and how it will be coordinated with civil aviation so as not to interfere with normal flights.
The construction of such infrastructure is an important step toward ensuring the peace of mind of citizens and the protection of national security. The project is expected to be a priority for state authorities over the next year, with close cooperation with NATO partners also planned for the exchange of experience and technology.
