Activists place "TOXIC" sign in front of Bobov Dol TPP
Activists from the environmental organization Greenpeace Bulgaria organized a protest in front of the Bobov Dol Thermal Power Plant. On Wednesday, they placed a huge sign with the word "TOXIC" directly under the plant's chimneys to express their dissatisfaction with air pollution in the region.
Through this action, the environmentalists want to draw public attention to the harmful impact of coal-fired power plants on the environment and human health. According to them, the operations of the Bobov Dol TPP continue to be a serious source of dangerous emissions, despite repeated promises of change.
For its part, the plant's management claims that it is working on modernization plans. They state that they are planning a gradual transition to the use of natural gas and other alternative fuels, which are considered cleaner than coal.
Despite these assurances, environmental organizations remain skeptical and are demanding faster and more transparent actions. They are calling for a clear schedule for closing the most polluting facilities and a transition to renewable energy sources.
The case once again brings to the fore the question of Bulgaria's energy future and the balance between economic interests and nature conservation. The dialogue between energy companies and civil society is expected to continue in the coming months.
