Important for tourists: What you need to know about medical care on the Black Sea coast
The summer season on the Bulgarian Black Sea coast is in full swing, and thousands of tourists are choosing our resorts for their vacation. Along with the pleasant emotions, however, unexpected health problems sometimes arise that require quick medical intervention.
In the largest Bulgarian resort, Sunny Beach, there are ten medical centers available to vacationers. It is important, however, for tourists to be informed that none of these centers work with the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF).
This means that when visiting a doctor in the resort, patients must pay the full price of the examination and all prescribed tests or procedures. Prices for medical services in private practices are often higher than those in state hospitals in the country.
Experts advise tourists to check the terms of their insurance in advance or to set aside an additional budget for emergencies. It is also a good idea to bring the necessary medications you take regularly to avoid searching for pharmacies during busy hours.
Before you set off, it is recommended that you consult your general practitioner or check what the options for emergency care are in the area where you will be staying. Being informed can save you both unnecessary expenses and worries during your vacation.
