Court in Kočani to decide whether Iva Mihaylova can receive medical treatment in Bulgaria
Bulgarian citizen Iva Mihaylova is awaiting an important decision from the court in the city of Kočani, North Macedonia. She was severely injured in a road accident on the road between Kočani and Štip, which led to serious health problems. Since October, Iva has been forced to remain in the city, as her freedom of movement is restricted due to the pending judicial proceedings.
The main issue to be resolved is whether the young woman will be permitted to leave the country to continue her treatment in Bulgaria. According to her relatives, her condition requires specialized medical care that cannot be provided locally. Iva's lawyers are insisting on humane treatment and the opportunity for her to receive the necessary therapy in her home country.
The case has attracted the attention of the public and institutions, as it concerns the rights of Bulgarian citizens abroad. The situation is complex, as judicial procedures in North Macedonia require the presence of defendants or participants in the process until the investigation is concluded.
The next court hearing is upcoming, where magistrates are expected to review the request to change the remand measure. Bulgarian diplomatic services are closely monitoring the development of the situation and are providing the necessary assistance to Iva Mihaylova within the scope of their authority.
