New data on pollution from Bobov Dol TPP sparks public attention
Greenpeace Bulgaria has published alarming data regarding the operations of the Bobov Dol Thermal Power Plant. According to the information released, the plant recorded numerous violations of environmental standards within just the first three weeks of 2026.
The data shows five instances of exceeding permissible levels of sulfur dioxide (SO2) and two instances of exceeding levels of fine particulate matter (PM). These indicators are directly linked to the air quality in the region and the health of the local population.
Greenpeace claims that the official statements from the plant's management and the positions of the trade unions do not correspond to the actual measurements. The environmental organization is calling for stricter control and transparency in the monitoring of harmful emissions released by the facility.
At present, the institutions responsible for environmental protection have not issued a final statement on the case. An additional inspection is expected to determine whether the plant is complying with operational requirements or if administrative measures are necessary to limit the pollution.
