Plovdiv hospital where 6-year-old child died remains without a contract with the National Health Insurance Fund
The Regional Health Insurance Fund (RHIF) in Plovdiv has officially terminated its contract with the private hospital where a 6-year-old boy died some time ago. The decision comes after a serious incident that sparked a wide public outcry and investigations by state institutions.
Prior to this action by the Health Insurance Fund, the Minister of Health revoked the medical facility's license to perform medical activities. This measure is extreme and is imposed when serious violations are found in the hospital's operations or when patient safety standards are not met.
With the termination of the contract, the hospital loses its right to receive funding from public health funds. This means that the medical facility can no longer admit patients under clinical pathways covered by the state and, in practice, ceases its work with the National Health Insurance Fund.
The case of the child's death remains the subject of an investigation by the prosecutor's office. Investigative authorities are expected to determine whether there was medical error or negligence that led to the tragic incident, which shook the entire country.
At the moment, institutions continue to monitor the situation to ensure that patients' rights are protected. More details regarding the final results of the inspections at the hospital are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
