Bulgaria will not participate in NATO's new anti-drone initiative
Bulgaria has officially announced that it will not join NATO's initiative to combat drones. The decision was announced by Minister of Defense Dimitar Stoyanov in response to questions regarding the country's participation in the Alliance's collective projects.
NATO's initiative aims to improve protection against unmanned aerial vehicles, which are becoming increasingly used in modern conflicts. The project envisions member states joining forces to develop and deploy new technologies for detecting and neutralizing such threats.
Although Bulgaria remains a loyal member of NATO, the country has chosen not to participate in this specific project. The Minister of Defense did not provide detailed motives for this decision, but emphasized that the national defense strategy follows its own priorities and plans for the modernization of the armed forces.
This decision comes at a time when security issues in the Black Sea region are of great importance. Experts note that the topic of drone protection is extremely relevant, as these devices are changing the way military operations are conducted around the world.
The Bulgarian government continues to work on other projects to strengthen the country's defense capabilities. It is expected that in the future, new opportunities for cooperation with Alliance partners that align with the needs of the Bulgarian army will be discussed.
