The National Health Insurance Fund and the Bulgarian Medical Association signed a new framework agreement
The National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) and the Bulgarian Medical Association (BMA) have officially signed the National Framework Agreement for medical activities for the 2026–2028 period. This agreement is key for the Bulgarian healthcare system, as it defines the rules under which medical services will be provided to citizens over the next three years.
The main goal of the document is to guarantee patient access to quality medical care and to ensure stability in the work of doctors and medical institutions. The agreement includes important changes related to the financing of clinical pathways and the remuneration of medical professionals in the country.
During the negotiations, both parties discussed opportunities for more effective use of funds in healthcare. Special attention was paid to disease prevention and improving the work of general practitioners, who are the first point of contact for patients with the healthcare system.
The signing of this agreement is an important step for the predictability of healthcare services in Bulgaria. The new rules are expected to help reduce the administrative burden on doctors and make healthcare more accessible to all insured persons in the country.
