Bulgaria to veto sanctions against Russia under certain conditions
Bulgaria has announced that it is prepared to veto new European sanctions against Russia. The reason for this decision is the inclusion of Russian Patriarch Kirill in the European Union's list of sanctioned individuals.
According to the country's official position, imposing restrictions on religious leaders is unacceptable. President Rumen Radev emphasized that Bulgaria will not support measures that affect religious institutions, even when it comes to a political conflict.
This decision places Bulgaria in a specific position relative to other European Union member states. Diplomatic efforts in Brussels are ongoing, as a balance is sought between common European policy and the country's national interests.
The issue of sanctions remains a central topic on the European agenda. Further consultations are expected to take place in the coming days to clarify whether a compromise will be reached regarding the list of individuals subject to restrictions.
