The President handed over the first mandate for forming a government
On May 7, the presidential institution took an important step toward resolving the political situation in the country. The first exploratory mandate to form a regular government was officially handed to the largest parliamentary group – the "We Continue the Change – Democratic Bulgaria" coalition.
The procedure was conducted in accordance with constitutional requirements at the "Dondukov" 2 building. Vice President Iliana Iotova, on behalf of Head of State Rumen Radev, presented the folder containing the mandate to the representatives of the political force. This event is a key moment for the future of governance in Bulgaria.
Now, the nominee for Prime Minister must present the structure and composition of the future cabinet. Political leaders have a seven-day period in which they must either propose a government composition to be voted on by the National Assembly or return the mandate unfulfilled.
Intensive negotiations between the political parties in parliament are expected in the coming days. Whether the country will have a stable government or if it will be necessary to hand a second mandate to the second-largest political force depends on the results of these talks.
