The state will support municipalities for bus transport in 2026
The government plans to allocate additional financial resources to Bulgarian municipalities in 2026. The purpose of this measure is to cover the losses that local authorities incur in maintaining bus lines in public transport.
Many of the bus routes in the country fail to sustain themselves through the sale of tickets and travel passes. This creates serious difficulties for municipalities, which are often forced to cut services or look for ways to optimize their expenses.
The new state aid is intended to ensure the stability of public transport and guarantee that residents of smaller settlements and remote neighborhoods will have access to reliable transport connections. This is of particular importance for people who rely on buses for their daily commute to work or school.
It is expected that the distribution of funds will be linked to specific criteria, which will be specified further. The goal is for the money to reach those municipalities that are in greatest need of support in order to maintain the operation of lines that are important to citizens.
This initiative is part of the state's efforts to improve the quality of services in the public sector. The measure is expected to contribute to better mobility in the country and to ease the financial burden on local budgets.
