Mother of a sick girl from North Macedonia seeks help from the Bulgarian Parliament
The mother of 23-year-old Iva Mihaylova from the city of Kochani, North Macedonia, has issued an urgent appeal to Bulgarian institutions. She appeared before a parliamentary committee in Sofia to describe the difficulties her daughter faces in her attempts to gain access to specialized medical treatment in Bulgaria.
According to the mother's account, Iva suffers from a serious illness that requires expert medical care, which is unavailable to her in her home country. Despite the family's desire to seek treatment in Bulgarian hospitals, they are encountering serious administrative obstacles that prevent the young woman from crossing the border and being admitted to a medical facility.
The case caught the attention of the members of parliament, who discussed possible steps for assistance. During the meeting, the legal frameworks that restrict the movement of patients from neighboring countries seeking medical care in our country were reviewed, and options for a humanitarian exception were explored.
The issue of access to healthcare for citizens of North Macedonia with Bulgarian self-awareness often appears on the agenda of public debates. The case of Iva Mihaylova highlights the need for clearer procedures and better coordination between institutions to ensure timely assistance for people in critical condition.
It is expected that the parliamentary committee will come up with a concrete decision on the case in the coming weeks. In the meantime, Iva's family continues to hope that the administrative obstacles will be overcome so that the young woman can receive the necessary treatment as soon as possible.
