Minister Shishkov warned of possible financial abuses in the water and sanitation sector
Caretaker Minister of Regional Development and Public Works Ivan Shishkov announced that audits for financial irregularities are forthcoming at the state-owned "Water and Sanitation Holding." According to him, there are serious suspicions of improper allocation and "leaks" of public funds intended for investments in water supply infrastructure.
A key focus of the minister's statement is the quality and price of water services for Bulgarian citizens. Shishkov emphasized that the current price of water is not low, which makes the efficient management of funds in the sector extremely important for consumers.
The minister pointed out that state-owned companies must operate transparently and direct money toward real improvements to the network, rather than toward inefficient expenditures. It is expected that concrete data and results from the audits conducted at the holding will be presented in the coming weeks.
The topic of the state of the water and sanitation sector is of great importance to society, as many settlements in Bulgaria still suffer from frequent accidents and outdated pipelines. The ministry's disclosures are expected to shed light on how taxpayers' money is being spent within these state structures.
