Democratic Bulgaria requests information on Magnitsky sanctions
The "Democratic Bulgaria" coalition has taken official steps to clarify the circumstances surrounding the sanctions under the Global Magnitsky Act. The political formation has sent official inquiries to several key institutions, including the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) at the U.S. Department of the Treasury.
The purpose of these inquiries is to gain greater clarity regarding the grounds for imposing sanctions on Bulgarian citizens and companies. "Democratic Bulgaria" is insisting on concrete answers that will help the public better understand the scale of the corrupt practices identified in the American lists.
In addition to the U.S. authorities, inquiries have also been sent to the Bulgarian Prosecutor's Office and the State Agency for National Security (SANS). The coalition expects these institutions to provide information on the actions they have taken following the announcement of the sanctions and whether investigations into the cases are underway.
The issue of the Magnitsky sanctions remains a topic of great importance for political life in Bulgaria. These measures are directed against individuals involved in serious corruption and have an impact on the transparency of governance and the rule of law in the country.
At this moment, official responses from the queried institutions are awaited. It is expected that the information received will be presented publicly to ensure transparency regarding the measures the state is taking against high-level corruption.
