New data on air pollution from Bobov Dol TPP
The organization Greenpeace Bulgaria has published alarming data regarding the operations of the Bobov Dol Thermal Power Plant. According to the information released, the plant was responsible for serious violations of environmental standards at the beginning of 2026.
The environmentalists' analysis shows that within a period of just 21 days, five cases of sulfur dioxide (SO2) levels exceeding limits were recorded. Furthermore, two instances of exceeding the permissible limits for fine particulate matter (PM) were identified.
These data call into question the energy company's compliance with environmental standards. Greenpeace claims that pollution from the plant has a direct negative impact on the air quality in the region.
At this time, the institutions and trade union organizations associated with the operation of the TPP have not provided an official comment on the new allegations. The situation remains a subject of public attention due to the potential risks to the health of the local population.
The question of the future of coal-fired power plants in Bulgaria continues to be a topical issue. State authorities are expected to conduct additional inspections to determine whether the plant is operating in accordance with the country's environmental legislation.
