Nearly 29% of Bulgarians are at risk of poverty
The latest data from the National Statistical Institute reveal serious challenges regarding the standard of living in Bulgaria. According to official statistics, nearly 29% of the country's population lives at risk of poverty. This means that almost one in three Bulgarians faces serious difficulties in covering their daily expenses.
The main reason for these alarming levels is the low level of income, which often fails to keep pace with the rising prices of goods and services. Experts note that the most vulnerable remain the elderly, large families, and residents of smaller settlements, where job opportunities are limited.
Social inequalities in the country continue to be significant. While economic activity is higher in large cities, access to quality healthcare, education, and well-paid employment remains difficult in rural areas. This deepens the gap between different groups in society.
State institutions are looking for ways to address the problem through various social programs and the indexation of pensions and salaries. Despite these efforts, economists emphasize that a longer-term plan is needed to improve the economic environment and increase labor productivity.
In conclusion, the issue of poverty remains one of the most important priorities for Bulgaria. Improving the quality of life requires not only financial support for those most in need but also structural reforms that ensure a fairer distribution of income across the entire country.
