More students are graduating with engineering degrees in Bulgaria
The number of university graduates in Bulgaria increased by nearly 2,000 during the 2025/2026 academic year. These data were presented by the National Statistical Institute (NSI) and show an interesting shift in the preferences of young people in the country.
According to official statistics, the largest growth is observed among those graduating with engineering and technical degrees. This is a positive trend for the Bulgarian economy, as the labor market has a constant need for qualified personnel in these sectors.
At the same time, however, there is a decline in the number of students choosing professions in the fields of education and healthcare. This raises concerns among experts, as these areas are of critical importance for the development of society and the quality of life in the country.
The NSI data provide an important direction for the future development of higher education in our country. The state and universities will need to consider how to attract more young people to humanities and social professions in order to balance the demand for personnel across different sectors.
