New data shows serious air pollution from TPP Bobov Dol
Greenpeace Bulgaria has published alarming data regarding the state of the air around TPP Bobov Dol. According to the information released, the power plant is responsible for repeated violations of environmental standards within just the first three weeks of 2026.
Analyses show that over a period of 21 days, five cases of exceeded sulfur dioxide (SO2) levels and two exceedances of fine particulate matter (PM) were recorded. These indicators are directly linked to the plant's operations and raise serious concerns for the health of people living in the region.
Greenpeace claims that the official statements from the plant's management and the trade unions do not reflect the real situation. According to the environmentalists, attempts to downplay the problem hinder the implementation of adequate measures to address the pollution, which is described as extremely toxic.
At this moment, the institutions responsible for environmental control have not issued an official comment on the new data. Citizens and environmental organizations continue to demand stricter monitoring and transparency in the operation of energy facilities in the country.
