Danube River levels remain low despite rainfall
The level of the Danube River remains critically low, despite recent rainfall in the region. According to experts, a standard rain is not enough to restore the normal volume of water in the river.
Former Minister of Environment and Water Julian Popov explained to the Bulgarian National Television that the situation requires more prolonged and intense meteorological changes. According to him, short-term rainfall cannot compensate for the long period of drought that has affected the river's catchment area.
Popov emphasized that Bulgaria already has experience in managing such environmental challenges. He noted that European Union countries are learning from the Bulgarian experience in dealing with water resource shortages and river level management.
Although the situation is serious, authorities continue to monitor water levels daily. It is important to understand that the recovery of the river is a slow process that depends on climatic conditions across Europe, not just on local rains in the country.
