Delivery of the second batch of F-16 fighter jets for Bulgaria is delayed until 2030
The Ministry of Defense of Bulgaria has officially confirmed information regarding a delay in the delivery of the second group of eight F-16 Block 70 fighter jets. According to the new schedule, the aircraft are expected to arrive in the country in 2030, which is significantly later than originally planned.
The reason for this postponement is production difficulties at the American manufacturer Lockheed Martin. Issues with supply chains and the global demand for this type of combat aircraft are impacting the fulfillment timelines for orders from many countries, including Bulgaria.
Despite the change in the schedule, the Ministry of Defense assures that it is taking the necessary measures to maintain the country's defense capabilities. Experts are working on plans to extend the operational life of existing aviation equipment to ensure the protection of Bulgarian airspace.
This delay poses new challenges for the modernization of the Bulgarian Air Force. The state continues to hold discussions with American partners to closely monitor the production process and ensure there will be no further changes to the deadlines.
The situation remains under observation by the government and military leadership. It is expected that more details will be provided in the coming months regarding the specific steps that will be taken to address the shortage of new fighter jets in the short term.
