President of North Macedonia: The dispute with Bulgaria has a European dimension
The President of North Macedonia, Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova, commented on the relations between Skopje and Sofia in a recent interview with Sitel TV. The topic became relevant following her meeting with the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen.
In her statement, Siljanovska-Davkova emphasized that the dispute between the two neighboring countries should not be viewed solely as a bilateral issue. According to her, the case has a broader European dimension that requires the attention of institutions in Brussels as well.
Skopje's position remains focused on seeking a dialogue that would lead to progress in the country's European integration. The President expressed hope that through discussions with European leaders, solutions will be found to overcome the current obstacles in relations with Bulgaria.
The Bulgarian side has repeatedly stated that it expects strict adherence to international commitments and agreements from North Macedonia. Sofia places emphasis on the protection of the rights of Bulgarians in North Macedonia and compliance with the criteria for good neighborly relations.
The issue remains key to the stability of the region and the future expansion of the European Union in the Balkans. Diplomatic efforts to clarify positions are expected to continue in the coming months.
