First flu case for the new season confirmed in Bulgaria
The National Center for Infectious and Parasitic Diseases (NCIPD) has officially confirmed the appearance of the first case of influenza virus in the country for the 2026-2027 season. It concerns the A(H1N1)pdm09 strain, also known as "swine flu."
Experts from the center are closely monitoring the situation regarding the spread of viral infections. The confirmation of this case marks the beginning of the active flu period in Bulgaria, which usually intensifies in the coming months.
Doctors remind citizens that the flu spreads easily through airborne droplets. Symptoms often include high fever, severe fatigue, muscle aches, and a dry cough. Upon the appearance of such complaints, specialists advise patients to consult a general practitioner and avoid self-medication.
To protect themselves, people are advised to maintain good personal hygiene, wash their hands frequently, and avoid crowded places. Vaccination remains the most effective way to protect against severe complications from influenza strains.
Health authorities will continue to monitor morbidity levels in the country throughout the winter. The number of cases is expected to increase gradually, so increased attention to health is recommended, especially for children and the elderly.
