Changes to insurance thresholds in Bulgaria as of August
As of August 1st, new rules for insurance income have come into force in Bulgaria, affecting a large portion of employees and self-employed individuals in the country. These changes are part of the state policy to update social security.
According to the new regulations, the maximum insurance income is now fixed at 2,300 euros. This means that mandatory social security contributions for state public insurance are not due on amounts exceeding this threshold.
For those working as self-employed individuals, the minimum insurance income is set at 620.20 euros. These changes directly affect the amount of net income that citizens receive each month, as they alter the amount of insurance deductions.
Experts advise employees to check their pay slips to ensure that their employers are correctly applying the new thresholds. The goal of these measures is to ensure greater stability of the country's insurance system in the long term.
It is expected that these new levels will remain in force throughout the coming year, with further analyses of the economic situation planned by 2026. Citizens can find more information on the official websites of the National Revenue Agency.
