Greenpeace Warns of Dangerous Air Pollution from Bobov Dol TPP

Greenpeace Bulgaria has published new data regarding serious air pollution in the area of the Bobov Dol Thermal Power Plant (TPP). According to the environmental organization, the plant continues to emit toxic substances that endanger the health of people in the region. The report highlights the need for greater transparency and control over the activities of the energy facility.

The measurements show worrying results over an extremely short period of time. In just 21 days at the beginning of the year, five cases of exceeding the permissible limits for sulfur dioxide (SO2) were recorded. In addition, two instances of exceeding the levels of fine particulate matter, which is a major factor in environmental pollution, were also reported.

Sulfur and particulate matter are dangerous to the respiratory system and can cause serious health problems for the local population. Greenpeace claims that official data from the plant often do not match the actual situation on the ground. This creates tension between environmentalists and the management of the TPP, which denies the allegations.

Trade unions have also joined the debate, defending the plant's operation. They emphasize that the Bobov Dol TPP is important for the regional economy and provides jobs for many people. According to them, the criticism from environmental organizations is exaggerated and threatens the country's energy security.

The situation in Bobov Dol remains complex and requires the attention of state institutions. Environmentalists are calling for stricter sanctions and the modernization of treatment facilities. Clean air is a fundamental right of citizens, and finding a balance between industry and human health is a major challenge for the future of the region.
