Democratic Bulgaria proposes a total ban on gambling advertising
The "Democratic Bulgaria" coalition has announced that it is submitting a new bill to the National Assembly to amend the Gambling Act. The main goal of the initiative is to limit the influence of gambling on society through stricter regulations.
The proposed changes provide for closing existing "loopholes" in the law that allow for the circumvention of rules. The MPs are insisting on a total ban on the advertising of gambling services everywhere, including in the media and public spaces.
According to the sponsors, the current rules are not effective enough to protect citizens, especially young people. The new measures aim to reduce access to information that encourages betting and to limit the mass presence of gambling advertisements in the daily lives of Bulgarians.
The bill is expected to be reviewed by parliamentary committees in the coming weeks. A debate between political parties is forthcoming regarding whether the proposed restrictions are balanced and how they will affect the media market and businesses in the country.
