Inspection at TPP Maritsa 3 due to air pollution in Dimitrovgrad
The Regional Inspectorate of Environment and Water (RIEW) in Haskovo has conducted an extraordinary inspection at TPP Maritsa 3. The reason for the institution's actions is the recorded elevated levels of sulfur dioxide in the ambient air over the city of Dimitrovgrad.
Data from the measuring stations showed an exceedance of the permissible limits, which caused concern among local residents. Experts from the environmental inspectorate are on-site to determine whether the power plant has complied with all environmental requirements during its operation.
During the inspection, specialists are analyzing the technological processes at the enterprise and the documentation related to the emissions of harmful substances. The goal is to determine whether the increased sulfur dioxide values are a direct result of the TPP's activities.
RIEW-Haskovo will prepare a detailed report after the inspection is concluded. If violations of environmental legislation are established, the responsible parties will be sanctioned in accordance with the regulations in force in the country.
