Europol dismantles major migrant smuggling network operating through Bulgaria
An international police operation, led by Greek authorities and supported by Europol, has resulted in the dismantling of an organized crime group involved in migrant smuggling. The network was actively operating across the territories of three countries – Bulgaria, Greece, and Romania.
The investigation revealed that the criminal organization smuggled illegal migrants across the borders of these countries using sophisticated methods to evade border control. Specialized teams participated in the operation, tracking the group's activities for several months.
Numerous arrests were made during the operation, and authorities gathered evidence on how the smuggling channels were organized. According to official data, the group consisted of individuals who coordinated the logistics and transportation of people across the Balkan Peninsula.
Europol emphasizes that cooperation between countries is key to combating cross-border crime. This operation is another step toward strengthening security at the external borders of the European Union and curbing illegal migration in the region.
