Serious shortage of emergency doctors in Bulgaria
Bulgaria is facing a serious shortage of qualified personnel in the emergency medical care system. According to the latest data from the Ministry of Health, there are only 129 doctors working across the country who hold an official specialty in "Emergency Medicine."
This small number of specialists creates serious difficulties for the operation of emergency teams. The lack of sufficiently trained personnel means that many of the teams responding to incident reports often consist of doctors with other specialties or residents who are still gaining experience.
Experts in the sector note that working in emergency care is extremely demanding and responsible. Doctors are often subjected to high levels of stress, and working conditions and low pay in the past have made this profession less attractive to young medics, who prefer to pursue careers in other areas of healthcare.
The Ministry of Health is looking for ways to address the crisis. Measures to incentivize young doctors to choose this particular specialty are being discussed, as well as improvements to the material base in emergency centers across the country.
The issue remains key for Bulgarian society, as the timely and professional response of emergency teams is of crucial importance for the life and health of patients. It is expected that concrete steps will be taken in the coming months to attract more specialists into the system.
