Flu season in Bulgaria: What is the current situation?
Although temperatures outside are dropping and autumn is progressing, there are still no registered cases of a proven influenza virus in Bulgaria. Health experts are monitoring the situation closely, as the peak of morbidity is usually expected at the end of the year or the beginning of the next.
At the moment, doctors are reporting the spread of other respiratory infections that are characteristic of the season. These present with mild symptoms such as a runny nose, cough, and a slightly elevated temperature. Specialists advise citizens not to worry, but to be careful and maintain good personal hygiene.
To protect themselves from future complications, health authorities remind the public that the most effective way to stay protected remains vaccination. Flu vaccines are available in the pharmacy network and are especially recommended for the elderly, patients with chronic diseases, and young children.
In addition to vaccines, doctors advise people to consume more vitamins through fresh fruits and vegetables, spend time outdoors, and regularly ventilate the rooms where they work or live. Regular physical activity and adequate sleep also help the immune system to be more resilient.
It is expected that the number of patients with viral infections will increase in the coming weeks, which is normal for this time of year. The Ministry of Health will continue to inform the public in a timely manner if the first cases of flu are detected in the country.
