Bulgaria to modernize its fleet with new mine hunters
The Defense Committee in the Bulgarian Parliament has approved a bill for the acquisition of specialized vessels known as "mine hunters." These vessels will be purchased from the Netherlands and Belgium to strengthen the capabilities of the Bulgarian Naval Forces.
The main goal of the project is to increase security in the Black Sea. Mine hunters are essential for detecting and neutralizing sea mines, which have posed a serious danger to shipping in the region in recent years.
The contract includes not only the acquisition of the ships themselves but also the necessary maintenance, crew training, and the provision of spare parts. This is part of the country's long-term plan for the modernization of the army and the fulfillment of our commitments to NATO.
The bill is expected to be voted on in the plenary hall of the National Assembly soon. Following its final adoption, Bulgaria will begin the process of accepting the equipment, which will improve the country's defensive capabilities in its maritime territory.
