Important for tourists: Medical services in Sunny Beach are not covered by the National Health Insurance Fund

The summer season on the Bulgarian Black Sea coast is in full swing, and thousands of tourists are choosing the Sunny Beach resort for their vacation. However, it is important for holidaymakers to be informed about how emergency medical care is provided in the area to avoid unpleasant surprises in the event of health problems.

There are ten medical centers operating in Bulgaria's largest seaside resort, Sunny Beach. Despite their large number, none of them have a contract with the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF). This means that patients cannot use their health insurance booklets or referrals for specialist examinations there.

Due to the lack of a contract with the state fund, all medical services in these centers are paid for entirely by the patients. The prices for examinations, procedures, or tests are determined by the private medical facilities themselves. Visitors should be prepared for the fact that treatment costs can be significant, especially if more specific medical intervention is required.

Experts advise tourists to check in advance what medical assistance options are available near where they are staying. For more serious conditions that require emergency hospitalization, it is recommended to seek assistance from state hospitals in nearby towns, such as Nesebar or Burgas, which work with the National Health Insurance Fund.

Before you leave for your vacation, it is also a good idea to inform yourself about the terms of your insurance. If you have additional health insurance, check whether it covers the costs of private medical centers at the seaside so that you can save yourself unnecessary worries during your vacation.
