Danube River level remains critically low in the Bulgarian section
Over the past 24 hours, a critical stagnation has been observed in the level of the Danube River at the main port cities in Bulgaria. Data from the Executive Agency for Exploration and Maintenance of the Danube River show that the water level remains unchanged at Ruse, Novo Selo, and Nikopol.
The low level of the river poses a serious challenge to shipping in the region. When the water is shallow, large cargo ships cannot pass safely through certain sections of the riverbed. This often necessitates cargo restrictions, which slows down logistics and commercial deliveries along this important European transport corridor.
Experts are monitoring the situation closely, as the river level depends directly on rainfall and snowmelt in the upper reaches of the Danube. At present, there are no forecasts for a significant rise in water levels, which means that restrictions on vessel movement are likely to remain in force over the coming days.
Institutions are urging ship captains to be extremely cautious and to comply with the current data on fairway depth. Shipping safety remains a priority while awaiting a change in the hydrological situation that would allow for the normalization of traffic along the river.
