Important for tourists: What are the costs for medical care at the seaside?

The summer season on the Bulgarian Black Sea coast is in full swing, and thousands of tourists are choosing our resorts for their vacation. Unfortunately, unexpected health problems sometimes occur, necessitating a visit to a doctor. In such situations, it is important for tourists to be informed about how medical centers in resort complexes operate.

In the largest Bulgarian seaside resort, Sunny Beach, ten medical centers are in operation. It is important to note, however, that none of them have a contract with the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF). This means that patients visiting these centers cannot use their health insurance for free examinations or treatment.

Due to the lack of a contract with the fund, all medical services at these centers are paid for entirely by the patients. The prices for examinations and procedures are determined by the private medical facilities themselves. Experts advise tourists to inquire about price lists in advance to avoid financial surprises during their vacation.

If a health problem is serious and requires emergency care, tourists can turn to the Emergency Medical Aid Centers, which are state-run and operate around the clock. In the event that hospitalization is needed, the nearest hospitals in the region handle emergency cases in accordance with the country's healthcare system rules.

Before you leave for your vacation, it is a good idea to check what medical assistance options are available at your resort. Be careful and take care of your health so that you can spend your summer vacation peacefully and without unnecessary worries.
