NRA intensifies inspections of commodity exchanges and markets in Sofia

The National Revenue Agency (NRA) has begun massive inspections of wholesale markets and marketplaces in Sofia. The goal of the campaign is to ensure compliance with tax laws and to curb the shadow economy in the fruit and vegetable trade.

Since the beginning of August, inspectors have identified 50 violations. The most frequent issues are related to the failure to issue cash register receipts and the lack of necessary documentation for the origin of goods. Experts from the NRA are carefully monitoring whether merchants are reporting their actual turnover.

Adrian Vasilev from the revenue agency emphasized that the inspections will continue throughout the entire active season. Inspectors are working in cooperation with representatives of the Bulgarian Food Safety Agency to guarantee the quality of the products reaching end consumers.

The purpose of these actions is to create a fair competitive environment for all merchants. The NRA reminds the public that issuing a fiscal receipt is mandatory for every purchase. Customers are also urged to demand their receipts in order to be protected as consumers.

It is expected that the intensified control will lead to higher tax collection and greater transparency in the capital's markets. The revenue agency's inspections will also cover other major cities in the country over the coming weeks.
