Prices in Bulgaria: German Expenses with Bulgarian Salaries
The economic situation in Bulgaria is sparking serious discussions among experts and the public. According to Lyuboslav Kostov from the CITUB, Bulgarians are already buying basic goods at prices that are almost identical to those in Germany. However, the main problem is that wages in the country remain significantly lower than the average for Western Europe.
Data shows that the prices of basic food products in Bulgaria are reaching between 90% and 100% of average European levels. This means that for products such as bread, milk, and meat, Bulgarians pay almost as much as citizens of much wealthier countries in the European Union. This trend is putting great financial pressure on many families in the country.
Kostov recalls that in the past, Bulgaria had a different economic position. Years ago, the country ranked third in the world in the production and export of electronics and computer components. Today, the economic structure has changed, which affects the income of workers and the overall standard of living.
In conclusion, the large gap between high food prices and low wage levels remains one of the greatest challenges for Bulgaria. Experts emphasize that changes in the economy are needed so that the standard of living for Bulgarians can approach that of other countries in the European Union.
