Bulgarian citizen wanted under a European Arrest Warrant detained in Greece
Greek authorities have detained a 45-year-old Bulgarian citizen who was wanted internationally. The man was sought on the basis of a European Arrest Warrant issued by the District Court in Stara Zagora in July of this year.
The operation to capture the individual was successful following cooperation between the law enforcement agencies of the two neighboring countries. At this time, no details have been reported regarding the specific crimes the detainee is accused of, nor the circumstances surrounding his discovery on Greek territory.
The European Arrest Warrant is a legal instrument that allows for the rapid transfer of individuals between countries in the European Union. Thanks to it, judicial authorities in Bulgaria can request the extradition of accused or convicted persons who are hiding abroad.
An extradition procedure is underway, through which the detained man will be returned to Bulgaria. Once he is handed over to the Bulgarian authorities, he will be brought before the District Court in Stara Zagora, where his case will be heard.
