MP proposes verification of the actual owners of strategic sites in Bulgaria
Bozhidar Bozhanov, an MP from "Yes, Bulgaria," has submitted a proposal for a new bill aimed at increasing transparency in the management of facilities important to the state. The main idea of the initiative is to reveal the actual owners of strategic sites, who are currently often hidden behind fictitious names.
According to Bozhanov, there is a risk that national security could be compromised when it is unclear who is behind the management of key infrastructure. He insists that the State Agency for National Security (SANS) conduct a thorough investigation to establish the ultimate owners of these sites.
The motives for the bill state that the lack of information regarding the real owners of strategic assets creates opportunities for foreign influence and corrupt practices. The goal of the measure is to ensure that the management of critical infrastructure in the country is transparent and accountable to the public.
The proposal has sparked a broad debate in political circles regarding the need for stricter control over assets of national importance. It is expected that in the coming weeks, members of parliament will discuss the details of the bill and the possible mechanisms for its implementation.
If passed, the law will oblige institutions to maintain up-to-date information on the ownership of all strategic sites. This is seen as an important step toward strengthening state security and improving the business environment in Bulgaria.
