Important for tourists: Medical services at the seaside are often not covered by the National Health Insurance Fund
The summer season on the Bulgarian Black Sea coast is in full swing, but experts are reminding tourists to be careful if they need medical assistance. Planning a vacation involves not only choosing a hotel but also knowing what to do if your health deteriorates during your stay.
In the largest Bulgarian resort, "Sunny Beach," there are ten medical centers available to vacationers. However, it is important for tourists to know that none of these centers work with the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF). This means that patients must pay the full price for examinations and tests on the spot.
This situation puts many people in a difficult position, as they often expect services to be free upon presentation of their health insurance card. The lack of a contract with the state fund requires patients to cover their own expenses, which can be an unexpected and significant cost to the family budget during a vacation.
Experts advise tourists to find out in advance about the nearest state hospitals or emergency rooms that work with the NHIF in the area where they are vacationing. It is also a good idea to check whether the insurance that many people have covers visits to private medical centers.
Before you set off on your trip, it is advisable to prepare a small first-aid kit with the most necessary medications. Stay informed and careful so that you can spend your vacation peacefully and without unnecessary worries about your health.
