New data on air pollution from Bobov Dol TPP
The organization Greenpeace Bulgaria has published alarming data regarding air quality around the Bobov Dol Thermal Power Plant. According to the released information, the plant is responsible for serious violations of environmental standards at the beginning of 2026.
Analyses show that in just the first 21 days of the year, five cases of exceeding sulfur dioxide (SO2) levels were recorded. Furthermore, two instances of exceeding the permissible concentrations of fine particulate matter (PM) in the area were also reported.
These data call into question the energy facility's compliance with environmental standards. Experts from Greenpeace emphasize that the pollution has a direct impact on the health of people living in the vicinity of the plant.
At present, representatives of the trade unions and the management of Bobov Dol TPP have not officially confirmed the allegations of systemic violations. The situation remains a subject of public attention, with further inspections expected from the competent state authorities.
The issue of air purity in the region remains a priority for local residents and environmental organizations. Institutions are expected to take the necessary measures to establish the truth and ensure a safe environment.
