New data shows serious air pollution from TPP Bobov Dol
Greenpeace Bulgaria has published alarming data regarding the operations of TPP Bobov Dol. According to the information released, the power plant is responsible for repeated violations of environmental air quality standards in the region during the first weeks of 2026.
Within just 21 days from the start of the year, five cases of exceeded sulfur dioxide (SO2) levels and two exceedances of fine particulate matter (PM) were recorded. These indicators are directly linked to the plant's production activities and are causing serious concern among local residents and environmental experts.
Greenpeace claims that the data shows a systemic failure to comply with environmental requirements. According to the organization, the information provided by the plant's management and union representatives does not reflect the actual situation and the extent of the harmful emissions being released into the atmosphere.
The issue of pollution from coal-fired power plants remains one of the most debated topics in Bulgaria, as it directly affects public health and the implementation of European environmental standards. Institutions are expected to conduct further inspections to establish the exact condition of the facilities and take the necessary measures to limit harmful emissions.
