Burgas court keeps man accused of drug trafficking worth 15 million euros in custody
The Burgas District Court has decided to keep in custody a man detained for attempting to transport a large quantity of narcotics. The case has sparked significant public interest due to the scale of the seized shipment.
During an inspection of a truck driven by the accused, authorities discovered over 340 kilograms of narcotic substances. According to experts, the market value of the seized goods is estimated at nearly 15 million euros. This is one of the largest shipments seized in the region in recent years.
During the court hearing, the accused declared his innocence. He claimed to the magistrates that he did not know what the cargo in the vehicle contained and that he was only performing his professional duties as a driver.
Despite the man's explanations, the court determined that the gathered evidence was sufficient to justify the request for permanent detention. The magistrates pointed out that there is a real danger that the accused could abscond or commit another crime if released.
The investigation into the case continues, with law enforcement authorities working to identify all individuals involved in the trafficking scheme. Additional forensic examinations of the seized substances are pending.
