Large-scale investigation probes misuse of budget funds in the National Health Insurance Fund
The Ministry of Interior, the State Agency for National Security (SANS), and the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) have launched a joint operation. The goal of the investigation is to determine whether public funds from the health institution's budget have been misappropriated.
More than 40 officials from the three agencies are participating in the operation. The teams are auditing documents and analyzing financial transactions to uncover potential irregularities. The investigation is focusing on how the money intended for the healthcare of Bulgarian citizens has been allocated and used.
At this time, the institutions are not disclosing details regarding specific individuals or medical facilities that are subject to the investigation. It is expected that sufficient evidence will be gathered in the coming days to show whether there has been any misuse of state funds.
This operation is part of the state's efforts to exercise stricter control over expenditures in the healthcare sector. The results of the investigation are expected to be made public immediately after the joint work of the law enforcement authorities is concluded.
