New data shows serious air pollution from Bobov Dol TPP
The organization Greenpeace Bulgaria has published alarming data regarding the operations of the Bobov Dol Thermal Power Plant. According to the information released, the plant is responsible for repeated violations of environmental air quality standards at the beginning of 2026.
Data analysis shows that within just 21 days, five instances of exceeded sulfur dioxide (SO2) levels were recorded. Furthermore, two instances of exceeding the permissible concentrations of fine particulate matter (PM) were also reported. These indicators are directly linked to the plant's production activities and have a negative impact on the environment.
Greenpeace criticizes the management of Bobov Dol TPP for a lack of transparency regarding emissions. The report mentions that trade union organizations at the enterprise also do not acknowledge the severity of the problem, which hinders dialogue on improving filtration systems.
Air pollution remains one of the most significant environmental problems for residents in the Bobov Dol area. Experts emphasize that the systematic failure to comply with environmental standards threatens public health and requires urgent intervention from state regulatory authorities.
