Bulgaria seeks used fighter jets due to F-16 delays
The Bulgarian Ministry of Defense has taken urgent measures to ensure the country's air security. Due to the delay in the delivery of the new American F-16 fighter jets, the department has begun exploring options for acquiring used aviation equipment.
As part of this initiative, representatives of the ministry have sent official inquiries to several countries, including Poland and Hungary. The purpose of these contacts is to determine whether these nations have available aircraft or necessary spare parts that could be provided to the Bulgarian Air Force.
This decision comes at a time when maintaining the airworthiness of the current fleet of fighter jets is of critical importance. The search for alternative sources for parts and equipment aims to bridge the gap until the arrival of the modern aircraft ordered from the USA.
At the moment, the negotiations are in an early stage and further information regarding potential deals is expected. The Ministry of Defense emphasizes that the main priority remains ensuring national security and fulfilling Bulgaria's commitments to NATO.
