Plovdiv marked 141 years since the Unification of Bulgaria
On September 6, Bulgaria marked one of the most important dates in its history – 141 years since the Unification of the Principality of Bulgaria and Eastern Rumelia. The city of Plovdiv traditionally became the center of the national celebrations, where the main events for the holiday took place.
The culmination of the festivities was the evening commemorative roll call, which lit up the sky over the city. The event brought together hundreds of citizens who came to honor the memory of the heroes who secured the unification of Bulgarian lands in 1885.
State leaders were present at the official ceremony, including the President of the Republic of Bulgaria, who is also the supreme commander-in-chief of the armed forces. In their speeches, the officials recalled the significance of this act for national self-esteem and the unity of the people.
The holiday proceeded with military honors and the laying of wreaths at the Monument to the Unification. Residents and guests of Plovdiv had the opportunity to participate in various cultural events dedicated to the historic date.
The Unification remains a symbol of the determination of Bulgarians to determine their own destiny. The celebrations in Plovdiv once again reminded society how important it is to remember history and to respect the efforts of our ancestors.
